Hunting for the Sifnos Monster (Greek Adventures Vacation Journal, Day 9)

I felt so refreshed, but then I realized it is June 1st.   Boooo...this marked the halfway point for our trip.  But then I was happy again when the hubs came in with coffee and pastries for breakfast.  Yum!

Good sleeeep.  And was wakened with coffee and pastry. :)

Chris and I decided we would do beach time this morning around the hotel, and then meet up with Brent and Julia for lunch.  We went to the little hidden cove we found last night, marked with the heart and stayed there for most of the morning.  Its very quiet and leisurely on Sifnos.  An introvert's dream.

After our morning sunsoak, we hopped in the car with Brent and Julia to go to lunch and hunt for the Sifnos Monster!!!  🐲  The monster is invisible.  He can only be heard when the wind blows thru the hills at just the right velocity.  We didn't find him.

More about the Sifnos Monster (and the Old Captain's Bar mentioned, Chris stayed up and watched a fun sports game with the locals while I went to bed.)

The restaurant in Vathi was cute and delicious.

Then we walked around Vathi, a sleepy resort town with lots of beach.

Julia told us about this pretty church they drove by this morning during their car explorations.  She described the area below the church of pretty flat rocks and people snorkeling and swimming around them.  She said the city, Kostas, had a Santorini-esque vibe to it, without all the people.  So Chris and I are like YAY! drop us off there on our way back, please!  We'll find our way back to the hotel.  Adventure!

Map of city of Kostas.  Takes about 10 minutes to walk across the entire city.

And here's the church with amazing rocks underneath for sunbathing and snorkeling

absolutely stunning.  One of the most memorable places on the trip.

a shady spot.

I chilled out on the rocks, and Chris snorkeled.  It was absolutely stunning.  Pictures can not capture how beautiful this place was.  I found a shady spot.  My skin was starting to protest all the time in the sun.  Just on my arms, I was developing a sun rash.  Red and bumpy and a little itchy.  No sunburns though.  I diligently wore sunscreen throughout the entire trip.  I had brought some aloe from home, but was going to have to hunt for some more.  Julia found me some in a pharmacy later.   After our fill of the beautiful church rocks, we started to problem solve how to get back to the hotel in Kamares.  We found a bus stop, but decided to wander around Kostas for a little bit, to try to get more information.  We knew there was a museum nearby and we searched for that, but when we finally found it (after passing it a few times), we realized it was closed.  hmmm...so back to the bus stop we went and there were people waiting there.  So surely a bus is coming soon!! And we were right.  Where is the bus headed????? Who knows?????? But the island is only this big, so we are bound to get home somehow!

Adventure!

We somehow figured out that we had to get off the bus and transfer to another one to get home.  #languagebarrieradventures

We met back up with Brent & Julia and ate dinner near our hotel at a place called Absinthe, where they had all kinds of absinthe.  Brent ordered one and the preparation process was fun to watch.

After dinner, we walked around and visited a shop with a variety of Greek goodies, and I acquired some mounTain Tea.  yum yum.  Then the others went to the Old Captain's Bar again, and I went to bed to prepare for more adventures!  Goodnight!
